Bruce Festival Events :
Tent 1 - Large Bell Tent ( Clanranald Trust ) :
Knights and Foot Soldiers will hold continuous demonstrations using various styles of combat with the weaponry of the period. All weaponry and armour are blunted tempered steel (battle-ready but safe to handle). Children will participate through taking on the roles of being squires to the Knights and selecting weaponry for our volunteers.
Tent 2 - Large Burgundian:
Costume and Armoury within the tent will be fully accessible to the children and all costume, weaponry and artefacts on display can be handled and worn by the children (and adults). 3 Foot Soldiers will be at the visitor's aid. Ongoing discussions with Q & A periods are of course catered for here.
Tent 3 - Campaign Tent:
Robert the Bruce and his Squire will hold an informative discussion with the children on the life of a Knight on campaign, including comparing this subject to life at court. The king's cook and servants will be on hand to show visitors how and what was cooked and eaten when on campaign.
Kids Battle: Age and height restrictions implemented due to observations from previous experience. Age groups that are not restricted are divided into groups 2-4 yrs and 4-6 yrs and 6-8 yrs. Each group will be handed "swords" made from soft foam tubing and under adult supervision our fun and historically much loved mock battle and interact action with our warriors will commence.
Dunfermline Spectacular Outdoor Historical Re-enactment
Centrepiece of the day's entertainment will be the jousting company ' Red Crow ' who will be presenting full armour contact displays of jousting. A team of six horses will be accompanied by full commentary on the skills-at-arms display. Alongside them will be one of Scotland's top re-enactment groups, ' Clanranald ', who will host a medieval encampment encouraging visitors to experience an ancient way of life.
Piping and drumming sensations, ' Saor Patrol ', will be performing two sets of music during the afternoon in the main arena, showcasing why they are so popular worldwide.
Living History group ' Medieval Methil ' will also have a tented village where people will be encouraged to wander round and see for themselves how food was prepared in times gone by.
' Strathleven Artizans ' will be displaying hand made artefacts fashioned from the ' Bruce Oak ', a 700-year-old tree from Bruce's time, and there will also be an opportunity to walk away with a specially carved ' Bruce Stone '. Displays of birds of prey will complete this unique insight into medieval life in the wonderful setting of Dunfermline's Pittencrieff Park.
