16-11-2007 CALUM'S CEILIDH - Sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu

At the Glasgow Gaelic school a very special evening was organised, An evening of fun and entertainment to raise funds for a very serious and tragic reason, to give wee Calum Morrison the very best life experiences for the remaining months he has amongst us. The whole evening was conducted in both Gaelic and Scottish language and under the Banner ?Two languages, Two cultures, Many opportunities? the evening got underway.

The incredible Strathclyde police pipe band opened the event, treating us all to expert pipes and drums, John Carmichael with his accordion got everyone on the dance floor (after a little coaxing) for the Ceilidh?s favourites: Gay Gordon, Dashing white sergeant and many more?In between the Acts, a great raffle was conducted, S.T.V generously donated a mountain of prizes with D.V.D box set and bottles of fine Malt in every bag which made sure there was plenty of delighted winners. I myself was initiated in a back to front game of Bingo without a big pen marker in sight.

From the school itself, a musical group of young Gaelic students called ?Na DeFonz? delighted us with traditional tunes on the Harp, pipes, violin and flute. But we all fell under the spell of Kathleen MacInnes?s Gaelic songs, her voice warming the hall like a blazing peat-fire. The Auction started with incredible lots up for grabs to the highest bidder, from signed football strip to signed Action photo shot and with two of the hardest working M.Cs, they made sure the evening raised an incredible amount of money for such a worthy cause.
The Climax of the evening came with the Incredible band ? Albannach? their big drums, bodhran and pipe make the soul travel with our glorious ancestors and drive the blood through your veins to the beat of their drums to a better future. What a superb evening
All our best wishes goes with you and your family Calum Morrison.
